Week 1 on The Carnivore Diet (My version)
My first week of Carnivore Eating.
What was it like? Crazy, but probably not in the way you may think. During the first week my weight just dropped by like 8 pounds. Now I know this was probably all water weight or at least a majority of it was water weight but I still felt lighter and better from having that bloat off of me. More than that though, my asthma seemed to improve quite a bit which is great! A big reason for starting this was yes to kickstart some fat loss but also see about how my body would improve regarding inflammation, depression symptoms, anxiety, etc. and yes all of those things seemed to improve a bit during that first week. Were they perfect, nope not at all but they were better. And, in my opinion better is moving in the right direction.
So, what did I eat? Well I usually ate 2 or 3 times a day depending on how hungry I was feeling. I still counted my calories because I wanted to be in a slight deficit for fat los. I was eating around 1700 and 2000 calories a day. Now for what foods I was eating. When you think of a carnivore diet or at least the perception of it you may be thinking of just pounding steak all day. I know that was what I thought and honestly that’s one of the reasons I held off on trying it in the first place. While I enjoy a good fillet occasionally, Steak really has never been something I thought I would want to eat everyday. So I didn’t. Yes I ate steak but I think I had 3 in total that first week. Also, they weren’t huge portions of it. So, back to what I ate. My diet consisted of fresh eggs from our chickens, shrimp, salmon, steak, pepperoni, chicken, some bacon, pork tenderloin and yes cheese. I chose to keep cheese in my diet for sanity because eggs and cheese just go together. I also season pretty more everything except my eggs with fajita season. So for breakfast would have 5 eggs with a little pepperoni and cheese and maybe 2 or 3 pieces of bacon. On most days I wasn’t hungry for lunch so I just breezed through the day until dinner when I would start to feel a bit hungry. For dinners, if I was eating steak, I would throw a steak (grass fed/finished) in the skillet and for about 3 minutes per side. When I flipped it over I would put a handful of shrimp in the pan at that point. Once I formed a crust on the steak I put it and the shrimp in the oven at 450 for about 6 minutes per side. Pull it out, scoop in onto my plate and that was dinner…sometimes I would have a mozzarella string cheese after to top it off. If I didn’t eat steak just substitute any other meat. And that was my diet for that first week. Pretty simple and I must say really easy to do for me. I didn’t have to think too much about how much I was eating and make sure I was getting just enough carbs. I just ate and really never felt hungry and never felt too full…I hate feeling stuffed which happened quite a bit when eating carbs.
How I felt mentally. Clear and focused. I wasn’t distracted by food which was great! Now my productivity was perfect because of other reason I will get into on other post but when I told myself to work on something without thinking about whether it was the right thing to work on, I had great focus.
Ohhhh the stomach! If you’ve research the carnivore diet you’ve probably heard the horror stories of bathroom time. Yes It can be true and to not get into too much detail, my stomach did take some time to adjust. It didn’t happen entirely in this first week but it wasn’t horrible. I’ll just leave it at that.
at the end of the first week I was down 8 pounds and my close started loosening up. Also, my strength remained the same and my endurance during metabolic conditioning was still good. Stay tuned for week two because that’s when the “fun” really kicked in!
